akron/family @ the oriental. 3/17

Akron/Family: hippies to the enth degree

So we went to akron/family last night. It seems that everytime I see them it is necessary for me to be completely drunk. I don't remember much of their set from the Monolith music festival. other than crying because they brought up pennslyvania, and I was worried Barack Obama was going to lose that state to john mccain in the election.

I suppose I wasn't as drunk last night, but I was pretty drunk. drunk enough to smoke in the venue. even though it's against the law. I guess I feel weird because I don't ever break the law anymore, I never drink and drive, I'm old enough to drink, and I've been laying off the poot, so I had to do something to rebel.

It's funny because just yesterday I went off about long sets and jamming. well, this set was long and there was like a ten minute jam session. I liked it though. I don't know if it was the 7 or so rum and cokes or the fact that someone even played a saw, but I really liked it. The beginning of the set was tight, defined songs, beutiful vocals. The end, as I said was full of jamming and at one point 9 or so musicians were on the stage going off on their instruments. Songs picked up and then got droney and at points it reminded of me of animal collective. I was a little sad they didn't play any of my favorite songs, but the show was really good nonetheless. It ended in a venue wide sing along that was like "last year was hard and this is our year" or something. I don't know, I was all about it at the time. Then again, the drunkeness factor could've had something to do it.

Overall it was a lot of fun, a way better experience than the time I saw them at monolith, and a great way to spend st. patricks day.
